    I would like to share my experience of purchasing abroad.  Like many others, I have been reading very negative experiences of buying abroad so I approached this with caution. Yes, I did take notice of others bad experiences so my eyes were open to a degree.

    I started browsing on the internet and found six properties that I found interesting. I had booked a holiday on the Gran Canaries with my daughter and decided to view these properties during our holiday.  I had made contact with two agents simply by chance. One of them, Horizon Properties had four of the properties that I wanted to view.  The day after we arrived, I received a call from Beryl from Horizon Properties to arrange a viewing date.
     
    Beryl picked us up at our hotel the following day and from then on my property purchase was a piece of cake. Beryl was such an open likeable fun person. My daughter and I felt very comfortable with her from our meeting, although I still held on to a little bit of caution.

    Viewing the properties was so easy as we were collected from our hotel and brought back. We were given so much information of the Island and time was not a problem for Beryl.  I found the property I wanted very quickly and I would like to say that Beryl made everything so easy that we sailed through the purchase.

    Nothing was too much trouble for her. She took the worry totally out of the experience. I felt very safe in her hands and I trusted her completely. She arranged simply everything from the very beginning, explaining all the legal procedures and being present at any meeting I had from setting up a bank account to the Notary and Solicitor.  I was also very happy with her choice of a solicitor. The legal side of purchasing had given me some concern, but after having spent some time with Beryl, I could see that she was someone who could be trusted. I was, and still am very happy with my Solicitor and if I have to have any legal representation for anything on this Island I certainly would feel very safe in his hands.

    The sale went through very quickly and my solicitor made sure all fears and concerns were quelled.

    I have just spent four months in my apartment and am ecstatically happy with my decision.

    Beryl and her husband John also made my moving in so easy. Being a female alone, making such a decision of course is more daunting than sharing such a move with a partner, but again Beryl and John made the experience so easy starting from picking me up from the airport and taking me to my apartment. They were constant visitors and they were both always ready to help with things in the apartment and to offer advice. They are still very dear friends and I consider myself very fortunate to know them.  I have much to thank them for and will always be grateful to them for making this such a pleasant and trouble free experience.

    I hope this will help future purchasers to have faith and that buying abroad need not be a bad experience.

    We've just finished settling on our apartment in Fuerteventura that was built off plan. We bought it through the local Horizon office in Corralejo.

    The team there have been invaluable from the start. They helped us with our initial queries about what was available and how the off plan process works. They were on hand to explain everything that was going on during the finishing stages and this was especially comforting as we don't speak Spanish and things did get complicated.

    When it came time to find lawyers, get a kitchen installed, furniture and even getting the power and water put on (not to mention a fantastic hairdresser and the best restaurants in town!) they put us in touch with English run businesses who gave us impressive service that I'd been warned was hard to find in Spain.

    Chantelle and the guys in the office were always there to help down to the most minute detail. At times I felt like I was annoying them with my incessant questions but Chantelle was never too busy to help and chase things up for me.

    After returning from seeing the place and meeting the team that has made this dream a reality I can't recommend the Fuerteventura Corralejo office of Horizon Property enough. We don't just have a beautiful home out there we now have a new group of friends too.

    Despite some problems caused by the vendor you ensured the sale went through as painlessly as possible and I am very grateful for your professionalism and humour displayed at all times, I know that you went the extra mile on several occasions not least with all your help after the purchase. Without your help I would never have been able to settle in as quickly as I have, by taking me around the local area and showing me the local shops and various official buildings you acted well above the service I was expecting and for this I am extremely grateful.

    Having had to leave the island through no fault of my own, I always believed that I had a true friend that I could talk to at any time.

    We recently bought an apartment in Gran Canaria and dealt with Property Consultant, Beryl Still.
    Having not purchased abroad before we obviously had concerns; we had heard so many stories where things did not go according to plan. We explained this to Beryl who, not only understood our concerns but went out of her way to put our minds at rest. She explained the whole process in great detail and 'hand held' us through each step. We are now the proud owners of the apartment we wanted. Beryl kept in touch with us via email when we came back to the U.K. and when we went back to Gran Canaria recently she very kindly not only took us to the shops and provided us with even more information but her and her husband came to our apartment armed with tools we needed to do our re-decorating. We continue to contact Beryl and John and we owe them a much deserved lunch on us.

    Having recently experience such outstanding customer service from your company we thought we would take this opportunity to say thank you and formally recognise the contribution of one of your employees, namely Janice Brown.


    Our search to buy a property in Tenerife started from the UK and we engaged two estate agents. We sent a lengthy questionnaire out to be answered, a brief for the type of property we wanted and also highlighted actual properties that we wished to view. We had a total of four days split between two estate agents for our trip and this would also need to include arranging a mortgage lender.


    To say that Janice rose to the challenge would be an understatement. We wish we could have videoed all the stages for you, so that you could have witnessed for yourself such a high level of professionalism. Her performance was exemplary in all ways and at all levels. Some of Janice’s qualities that shone through were:-   


    1. Her tenacity at following up leads- we originally left our information at the stall on the market the year before!

    2. Speed of response to difficult enquiries, some of which were also more general in relation to Tenerife

    3. Supplying good high quality accurate information

    4. Excellent PR skills

    5. 100% reliability – Always did what she said she would do within the timescales agreed.

    6. Flexible and willingness to do over and above what is required

    7. Excellent communication and organisational skills

    8. Very hardworking, conscientious, and thorough

    9. Excellent sales technique- very informative, honest and not to pushy

    10. Maintaining an overview of the whole process as it affects the customer and ensuring it is managed in a proactive way.

    Initial thoughts on the way over to Tenerife were that we would view different types of properties and narrow down the type of property that we wanted and also the estate agent that we would use. It was assumed we would not be comfortable on the first visit to make such a large purchase without having more time to think it through.


    Janice made the whole experience very easy for us. Everything was so well organised and co-ordinated with timely and accurate information covering all aspects relating to a purchase that was faultless we felt very reassured and needless to say when shown the property that was the right one for us, we had no hesitation and bought with great confidence.


    Janice also showed a genuine flair for interpreting our brief and knowing exactly what the customer wanted. In the end the property that we purchased was not one from our list or one that might normally have been considered. However the minute we were shown the property we knew it was the one we both wanted. Jennifer has since gone on to buy another property thorough Janice out at Cape Verde.


    Finally we would just like to say that we rarely give praise for customer service but felt that on this occasion as it had been so outstanding we had to show our appreciation.

    In December 2005 we made the decision to move to Tenerife and we have to say how fortunate we were to choose Horizon as our estate agents. We feel that a letter is the only way to relay the worlds biggest THANK YOU to a lady by the name of JANET ANSCOMBE, who, without her invaluable help and assistance we would most probably have given up on our dream of living here in Tenerife. It's difficult to know where to start but here goes, after exchanging emails it was arranged for us to meet up with Janet at our hotel the day after we arrived. Then followed a few days of viewing properties we may be interested in purchasing, the information Janet gave us was and has been so very helpful, luckily we found a house in Los Menores and have since purchased it and made the life changing move to wonderful sunny Tenerife.

    Janet has been there for us every step of the way and even helped us this week with a problem, we would have to make up a word to describe this wonderful,warm lady (as there isn't one in existence that we could find) who has shown us that nothing is too much trouble, and we now consider her to be a great friend.A big thank you to Margarita and Nikki in your Los Cristianos office who have also been extremely helpful. So thank you HORIZON for employing such great staff.

    This is just a short note to let you know how pleased we were with the service that Geoff Childe provided. He was extremely thorough in guiding us through the whole process of purchasing a property abroad, which can be very scary as you are stepping into unknown territory.

    When we were looking for a property we made it clear that we did not want anyone pushing us into anything as we had not even decided definitely on Lanzarote! However, due to Geoff's friendliness and listening to what his clients wanted he succeeded in selling us a property.

    I just thought I'd take this opportunity to let you know that, on and off, I've spent the last three months in four countries around the world talking to literally dozens of agents about a hundred-odd properties. In all that time, only two individuals left any lasting impression on me and only one, in all fairness, went that little extra distance to strike up a true rapport with her client. Both, as it happens, know one another and work within two minutes walk of each other in Corralejo.

    Despite my messing about, Collette laboured tirelessly showing courtesy and professionalism at all times and, on occasions, beyond the call of duty. Doubtlessly, there's more to do as yet but if I'm asked for a recommendation at any point in the future, hers will definitely be the first card handed out from my wallet.

    I would be more than happy for this commendation to reach those in high command. In the meantime, thanks to all of you for your kind help.

    We recently completed the purchase of property in Valparaiso, Playa Blanca, Lanzarote.

    We were guided through this purchase by Geoff Childe who went out of his way to
    "hold our hands" during the process.

    He for instance recommended Santiago Lleo as solicitor (Who was excellent and charged exactly the amount estimated at the outset) and told us where the large Ironmongers was at Tias - saving us hours !!! Etc Etc.

    We would not hesitate to recommend his and your services.

    Buying a property in the U.K. is a stressful experience. Buying one and managing the sale from 2,000 miles away filled us with dread. However, your help and assistance made the whole experience stress and trouble free.

    I would like to thank you for your excellent advice on everything from working with solicitors to hiring a handyman. I should also thank you for your constant attention. On several occasions you went beyond the call of duty, calling at the solicitor’s office at 9.00pm at night on our behalf was one such occasion and we are very grateful.

    Dear Sir,

    Hi, I hope this e mail will reach the managing director of the company.

    I came to Tenerife the weekend just gone on a pre arranged visit to view businesses in the Los Christianos area these businesses being Cafe/Bars.

    I had arranged this visit through Paul.

    I viewed a business straight away (which I have purchased) called the Pit stop.
    To cut a long story short Horizon were fantastic during my visit, and took me to view other bars during the time I spent during my visit.

    At no time during my visit did I feel pressured by Horizon, they let me make my own mind up whether I like the bars or not.

    I felt very relaxed with the company, even though Horizon was hoping to sell me a business we had a laugh, which is important to people, but serious and proffesional when needed to be.

    If the rest of the purchase of the business goes like this weekend I will be a happy man and happy customer.

    Please could you convey my thanks.

    A rather belated but nonetheless sincere thank you from Janet and myself for all your assistance and guidance with the purchase of our home in Estapona.

    Being our first overseas home purchase and being conscious that people have at times made serious errors buying second homes in Spain we were, as you are aware, very cautious when we made our first visit. However, after an initial meeting you introduced us to the available market at our price level, avoiding any hard selling tactics but rather offering useful advice on the plus and minus points of certain parts of the coast.

    We knew what we were looking for and found the right place within our budget on that first visit.     am writing to sing the praises of a member of your staff. In March 2003 my husband and I started looking for a property in Tenerife.

    After being severely let down by a number of other Estate Agencies, we came to Horizon and saw Sue. She took us to see a number of very nice properties and we decided to buy an apartment in “The Heights”. It is always a difficult situation when you buy a property abroad. However, Sue undertook to deal with all the relevant matters without hesitation. Nothing was ever too much trouble for her.
